Le paysage de Charleroi est composé de nombreux espaces vides et espaces verts qui seront certainement investis suite à la pression foncière qui menace toutes les villes. Charleroi, ou "la ville la plus laide du monde" pour certains, a un potentiel si l’on révèle ces espaces vides et verts pour qu’ils participent pleinement à la vie de la cité. Imaginer des «park systems» pour assurer une continuité entre ces espaces pourrait préserver la faune et la flore si particulière qui s’est développée dans les friches et sur les terrils de la ville noire. Des parcours secondaires seraient alors proposés aux habitants qui se baladeraient d’un parc d’intérieur d’ilot à une friche industrielle réaménagée en passant par un terril.
Notre travail a donc été d’imaginer différentes manières de révéler ce qui existe déjà. Installer une passerelle ou quelques marches pour faciliter le passage, occuper des parcelles inoccupées pour rendre publics les intérieurs d’ilots, activer des espaces en y disposant des activités, tant de petites interventions qui pourraient changer l’image mentale que l’on a de Charleroi.
The landscape of Charleroi is made up of many empty spaces and green areas that will certainly be invested as a result of the land pressure that threatens all cities. Charleroi, or "the ugliest city in the world" for some, has potential if these empty and green spaces are revealed so that they can participate fully in the life of the city. Imagining "park systems" to ensure continuity between these spaces could preserve the very special fauna and flora that has developed in the wastelands and slag heaps of the black city. Secondary routes would then be proposed to the inhabitants who would walk from a park in the interior of a block to a redeveloped industrial wasteland via a slag heap.
Our work has therefore been to imagine different ways of revealing what already exists. Installing a footbridge or a few steps to facilitate passage, occupying unoccupied plots of land to publicise the interiors of the blocks, activating spaces by arranging activities, so many small interventions that could change the mental image we have of Charleroi.
